Therapeutic Application of rTMS in Atypical Parkinsonian Disorders

Sherlyn Cullen

Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), multiple system atrophy (MSA), and dementia with Lewy bodies are the four principal forms of sporadic neuronal multisystem degeneration that are referred to as atypical parkinsonian disorders (APDs) and Parkinson plus syndromes (LBD). APDs are characterised by a wide range of symptoms and a paucity of disease-modifying medications; as a result, symptomatic therapy is the norm. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a noninvasive and safe brain stimulation technique that uses a magnetic coil and is used to treat a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders. In this work, we evaluate the research on the efficacy of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in the treatment of various APDs and Parkinson+syndromes. The majority of research has found that it helps with both motor and nonmotor symptoms.
